In love with a vintage house

I am in love.

It’s been our first day looking at houses to buy, and we looked at three.  The third one is it. It’s an old (about 80 years), highset, timber Queenslander.  It  has French doors onto the wrap around veranda, beautiful polished timber floors, Tongue & groove timber walls and high ceilings.   It has loads of character, and I love it.

The garden is also beautiful, if a little overgrown.  The five acre block is surrounded by sugar cane and mountains, and would be great for horse riding and walking. Even on a cloudy, foggy winters day it was beautiful.

There is also a small cottage.  It need a little work, but would be great for visiting teenagers and parents, despite the outside toilet.

The old rustic shed has a rich history as the local Blacksmith's workshop, and there is a newer three bay shed as well.

And here are some of the treasures in the shed.

It is a half hour to forty minute drive to work though, and they are asking a little more than we want to spend.  But……if we sell our house soon we might put in an offer.  You can see the listing and more photos here.

What do you think?  Any tips?

I’ll keep you posted.

  1. Sure hope you get that house! I have visited Australia including Queensland and really thought those classic houses were great.
