14 March 1942 - Wedding Photo Wednesday

Todays wedding photos are from the Australasian Magazine, 7 March 1942, showing a range of dresses from long and traditional to a simple knee length day dress and hat (which I really think I prefer – what about you?).

And here is a lovely article about what happened to eight different wedding dresses after the wedding, from ‘The Women’s Mirror” 1942 Magazine.

To news of the day - a stirring radio broadcast by Australian Prime Minister John Curtin :

... there will still be Australians fighting on Australian soil until the turning point be reached, and we will advance over blackened ruins, through blasted and fire-swept cities, across scorched plains, until we drive the enemy into the sea.

Stirring stuff! And here is the Prime Minister with his family, wife Elsie, son John and daughter,  also Elsie, outside their house at Cottesloe, 1942.  I love family snaps, don’t you?  And the daughters floral dress is gorgeous – the flowers look like they may be cut work.
