Linda was born in Dallas, Texas on October 16, 1923. Her father was for thirty years a clerk in a Dallas post office, and she had three brothers and two sisters. worker and his wife. In 1948, while married to J Peverall Marley, Linda adopted Charlotte Mildred Adams (nicknamed Lola), born on January 5, 1948.

On location in Jamaica in 1951 she fell ill and had to be quarantined for weeks. Her contract was dropped at this time and she tried to pursue an acting career in Europe. She re-signed with 20th Century Fox. This time with a mind set on television roles.
