I really love the driftwood sea horse - I might try and make something similar as the kids are always bringing home armload of drift wood from the beach.  And I am going to keep my eyes open for vintage oars and buoys - anyone got an old boat they don't want?!

10 Nautical Rooms for Boys

When we do move I am hoping that my youngest son will get his own room, or at least his own space, that will be pink and 'my little pony' free.  He has shared a room with his twin sister for all of his 7 years, and I think it's time for something a bit more boyish.  In keeping with the red, white and navy nautical theme I plan for the rest of the house, here is some inspiration:

De-cluttering & A Nautical Colour Scheme

My de-cluttering for the house move is going along in leaps and bounds! I sold a lounge suite today - mind you  I had only owned it a week. I bought it last week at the Thrift Store, as I thought it would be great to recover for the new house and it was so comfy and a great shape, and only $80!  It's been sitting in my spare room/garage leaving me no room to store the boxes I have already packed, and I finally came to my senses and realised that selling my six month old corner couch and replacing it with one that needed fabric covers made would be a huge waste of money.  So I advertised it with a free ad in the local paper and sold it - for $100!  The same buyer also bought our spare queen size bed that really wasn't going to fit in the new house, so I have de-cluttered and made money at the same time!

Of course keeping the red couch means that I have had to revised the colour scheme for the new house again.....so now it's beachy, but not pale beige, blue and white, but a more nautical feel with red, beige, white and blues and navy. Some rope, baskets, cane and sisal would have to feature too I think.  I still love the white timber furniture idea, and would love to have a window seat under the upstairs dormer window.  Here is some inspiration:

I love the the simple whale and anchor cushions - maybe I could try and make something similar?

I have a few more things for sale, such as another lounge suite (yes I know, how may lounge suites can a girl have?!) but if they don't sell I will donate them to the Salvation Army.  That's where most of my furniture came from in the first place, and I am sure they will be happy to see it again!

A celebration and a new color scheme

Yes, we're celebrating!  The house is sold, contract signed, and the contract is also signed on the new place (the cottage in yesterdays blog). Now it's just paperwork, building and pest reports, and then packing and moving. Here in Queensland settlement is only 30 days, so there's lots to do and not long to do it.  I am getting some small cardboard boxes from the wine shop across the road to start packing books tonight.

We have already started de-cluttering, but we intend to get rid of lots of furniture, since we are moving from five to three bedrooms and a small living room.  At present we have two modular corner lounge-suites and two three piece suites, plus a two seater and a four seater couch, occasional chairs and a bamboo three piece suite.  That's what happens when you shop at thrift stores!

I am also planning to change colour schemes.  At present we have a lot of red, with some black and autumn tones.  Our new house is basically a country cottage near the beach, with lots of internal timber and it's quite dark.  I envisage a colour scheme that is light and airy and beachy - lots of white and natural fabrics, with touches of sandy beige and blues and aquas. I want to paint some of my old dark furniture white, and recover sofas in either white or cream cotton duck or even pale denim.

Here's my first project - an old chair I picked up from the op shop a few months ago for about $5.

The seat cover is old green and white vinyl, and I am going to paint the timber white and distress it, and cover the seat in a blue fabric.  Update next post.
